OTTUMWA —
The man charged with murdering the manager of Cinema X will plead temporary insanity.
During his pretrial conference last week, the defense in Bruce Darnell Pollard’s case filed a notice of temporary insanity.
Pollard, 26, has been charged with first-degree murder in the death of Kenneth McDaniel, as well as first-degree robbery from the same incident. McDaniel’s body was found inside the front door of the adult theater the morning of March 13, 2012.
Pollard’s trial is set to begin at 9:30 a.m. April 9.
He has also been charged with going armed with intent and first-degree robbery after he allegedly robbed a carhop at the Sonic drive-in restaurant at gunpoint the night before the Cinema X murder.
He was also charged with going armed with intent and two counts of first-degree robbery in the armed robbery of the Jefferson Street BP convenience store two days after the murder.
The court recently ordered that the trials regarding the Sonic and gas station robberies “may be held beyond the one-year deadline.”
