OSKALOOSA —
The Oskaloosa Fire Department responded to a house fire at 6:23 a.m. Thursday.
No injuries were reported at the scene of the fire, according to Oskaloosa Fire Chief Mark Neff. However, the home has been deemed a “total loss,” Neff said, noting that the total damage estimate including contents of the house is approximately $175,000.
Upon arrival at 1401 9th Ave. W., Neff said flames could be seen coming from the roof noting that it took firefighters three minutes to arrive on scene.
Neff said 15 Oskaloosa Firefighters were on scene. Firefighters were joined on scene by Mahaska Health Partnership Ambulance and the Oskaloosa Police Department.
According to Neff, the fire began as an exterior electrical issue and moved into the attic of the home. Neff credited neighbors of the home with helping alert the residents of the fire and said there were no working smoke detectors in the house.
