CENTERVILLE —
An Appanoose County woman charged with going armed with intent, a D felony and domestic abuse assault with intent or displaying a weapon, an aggravated misdemeanor, was sentenced on the lesser charge.
Sheena Lorrine Sibert, 22, of Centerville, filed a petition June 22 to plead guilty to the lesser charge of domestic assault causing bodily injury, enhanced, an aggravated misdemeanor. The petition to plead guilty states on or about May 7, 2011 Sibert assaulted Joshua Matthews, who was her live-in boyfriend.
The petition also states Sibert was convicted of domestic assault in Appanoose County Oct. 30, 2009.
Judge Kirk A. Daily Aug. 3 sentenced Sibert to a fine, two years in state prison, all but two days of the prison sentence suspended, credit for two days served in the Appanoose County Jail and two years probation with the Eighth Judicial District Department of Correctional Services for the charge of domestic abuse assault with intent or display a weapon. A special probation condition requires Sibert to successfully complete the Batterers Education Program.
According to the criminal complaint filed May 9, 2011 by the Appanoose County Sheriff's office, Sibert at approximately 7:19 a.m. on May 7, 2011 had a verbal argument that turned physical with her live-in boyfriend, Joshua Don Matthews, 24. That morning's argument turned physical when Sibert admitted she went to the kitchen to get a knife that she placed against Matthews' throat.
The complaint goes on to state Sibert while at the Law Center following her arrest and reading of her rights in the presence of two law enforcement officers said "that she wanted to kill him (Joshua Don Matthews)."
A no-contact order was filed May 7, 2011 to protect Matthews against Sibert.
Sibert was convicted of domestic assault in Appanoose County on Oct. 30, 2009.
Prior to the May 9 confrontation, Matthews had a protective order against Sibert.
Beside the sentence, the court dismissed four simple misdemeanor charges Sibert was facing.
Sibert owes the state $983.75 for this case.
