Details of upcoming storm

Knoxville —

Marion County Emergency Management Coordinator Jeff Anderson took part in a conference call with the National Weather Service today. He shared these details and highlights from the conversation regarding the possible severe weather headed this way.

Below are the bullet points from today’s conference call that was conducted by the National Weather Service office in Des Moines.

·         A Winter Storm Warning is in effect for Marion County from 9 pm tonight through 12 noon tomorrow

·         4-7” of snow predicted for Marion County and adjacent counties, with some locally higher amounts possible

·         N/NW winds after midnight tonight of 20-30 MPH/ gusts of 35 MPH

·         Heaviest snow expected between midnight tonight and 9 am tomorrow

·         The snow in the early part of the event will be a wet/heavy snow.  As the atmospheric air dries later in the event, the snow will transition to a lighter/fluffier type

·         Impact on the roadways…early melting of the snow may contribute to the refreezing of that snowmelt on the roadways prior to the heavy snow beginning that would result in a layer of ice underneath the snow

·         Wind chills Wednesday night at/or below 0

·         Poor driving conditions are expected for the Wednesday morning commute.

Please plan accordingly, and evaluate the risks versus the benefits of traveling during this event.
